RSS News feeds are a free and simple way of keeping you notified on
news and changes to selected websites, and view all of this in one place.
Using a (free) RSS-compatible news reader,
you can see news from multiple sources and websites in one place,
a bit like how your Facebook news feed keeps you up to date with what your friends are doing.
These are RSS-aware programs or widgets (also called news aggregators). There are generally two types:
- Online News Readers
These are personalised web pages. All the main search engines offer news reader widgets on their customised homepages e.g.
iGoogle,
FeedBurner,
My Yahoo!
Social networking websites also offer widgets (e.g. Facebook applications) that act as RSS News Readers.
If you use a web-based News Readers, click on the appropriate button to subscribe to the RSS feed.
- Desktop News Readers
like
Feed Demon or
Sharp Reader
are free applications you can install on your computer.
You can subscribe to this RSS feed in a number of ways, including the following:
- Drag the orange RSS button into your News Reader
- Drag the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader
- Copy and paste the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader
If you have your own website or blog, you can display RSS news there.
